Testimonials

I, Roderick Lehman, attended the poker class instructed by Patrick in July of 2007. Up until that point I was a dealer in Atlantic City, NJ for 27 years. I dealt quite a number of games, although none of them poker. I thought that this would be an easy class, but I was mistaken. The technical aspects of the game were very challenging. I may have had the experience of chip handling and pitching cards, but that was not the entire picture. I was an old dog learning a new game. There were many times that Patrick had to stop me in the middle of doing something to correct me, having me take my time. I did not understand why he did it until I graduated and started dealing to the public.

Following graduation I obtained employment dealing at local bars. The money involved was not actual; it was what we called funny money. A person would donate to a charity and get vouchers in order to play at the poker table. The people that I had dealt to were friendly and quite forgiving to my mistakes being a new dealer to the game. On the other hand, they were also difficult at times because of the alcohol consumption dealing in a bar. I continued this for about six months a few nights a week, the pay was not much but it did not compare to the priceless experience I gained from it. I soon had an audition for a large poker room.

Surpassing what nervousness I had at the time, I was hired and am still working for the same company for about a year now. This work is much easier and relaxed. The people are less intoxicated and a little more serious with the gambling of real money. This whole experience has been rewarding, and through it all I have become a much better dealer. This all started with the professionalism that Patrick displayed as an instructor to the game. He far surpassed previous personnel I have dealt with in New Jersey. I could have never done this on my own and I thank him for the extra steps he took with me, as well as his other students. My advice to you all will be to learn as much as you can while in class and take your time with your side pots.
